Manager of Coding Operations
“Every day I wake looking forward to the new challenges coding presents.” — Julie
The move to ICD-10 in 2015 was a welcome event for Julie Boomershine. From her earliest days working in health information management, she was struck by how coding can contribute to patient care. She would imagine her work as a cancer tumor registrar and as a coder being used for data collection, then applied to research. Who knows; what if her meticulous and anonymous work contributed to a new drug, a new procedure, or a life saved? Imagine the possibilities with the better data offered by ICD-10.
Even as Julie moved up through the ranks from coder to team leader to manager and auditor at inpatient facilities in Indiana and Michigan, she felt invigorated by her work. Advances in medical technology led to new, interesting coding challenges. Now, as a manager for HRS, she’s motivated to help our coders assist our clients to receive accurate reimbursement and avoid compliance complications.
Julie has more than 20 years of experience in HIM. She holds an associates degree in health information management from Davenport University in Kalamazoo, Mich. and a bachelor’s degree in health information management from the University of Cincinnati.
